Metairie Missive

Good morning!  The church is without question a buzz as we are anticipating an incredibly busy month of June.  I trust that you have been praying for all the events and that you have been making plans to participate in them.  As mentioned many times, we aren’t busy just so we have something to do.  We are busy because we believe that God has given us these opportunities to demonstrate His incredible love to others!

A few reminders for the upcoming week:

*.  Thanks to all who came to the Gathering Sunday night!  We had a great time of fellowship and preparing for VBS.  Thanks to those who participated by passing out fliers in our neighborhood and for those who helped “assemble” the fliers.  Also, thanks for your incredible participation in last month’s mission project:  “Shirts, Shoes, Shorts, and Snacks.”  We were able to contribute 86 Shirts, 58 Shorts/Slacks, 17 Shoes, 20 Snacks and 10 Socks to the Friendship House and their effort to minister to the homeless.

*.  VBS starts this Sunday night — June 3.  We will be meeting nightly (Sunday through Thursday) from 6-9 p.m.  Family night will be Friday night and will begin at 6 p.m. and all MBC members are encouraged to attend.

          > You can still register to bring someone at www.metairiebc.org.  Sign-up sheets are available in the Orion Foyer as well.

          > Please use these final days before VBS begins to make certain that your family and friends are aware and invited.

          >If you have some extra time in the next few days, we still need volunteers to pass out the final batches of fliers in our community.  You can contact Mitch for more information.

          >Join us throughout the week – you can still volunteer to help.  If you would like to help or have any questions about VBS, please contact Melissa in the office at 504-835-2611 or Melissa.moskau@metairiebc.org.

          > Most importantly, please join us in praying for these great days.  Pray for the children who will be coming, for those bringing the children, for the teachers and workers.

*.  We are continuing to have 12 mission projects in 2012.  If you are able, you can participate in supporting the work and the ministry of the Friendship House through our June project.  They host a camp for girls throughout the summer entitled “UP2HOPE.”  As a result, they need someone to provide products – and that is what we are doing this month for our project.  You can find the items below and each item is listed beside a month.  Find the item beside your birth month and bring it any time during June to encourage this great ministry.  Join us by participating as you are able.

January and February – plastic forks or spoons
March and April – cups
May and June – bowls
July and August – plates
September and October – napkins or paper towels
November and December – pre-sweetened drink mixes

Note: Items can be paper, plastic or styrofoam, sizes of your choice and since two months are collecting the same item, small quantities are adequate.

*. Please keep the Crossover Block Party on your calendar, make plans to attend, and begin now to pray for the opportunity.  You can sign up in the Orion Foyer or talk with Mitch about how you can help.  More information will be following soon.

*. Join us tonight for our fellowship supper and for Bible study.  Groups are available for all ages tonight.  For the adults, we will continue our study through the New Testament and specifically look at Paul’s last letter written – 2 Timothy. If time allows, I would like to begin to update you on some directions the New Orleans Baptist Association is taking and how I feel we should respond.

*. Make plans to join us Sunday morning.  Bible Study/Sunday School begins at 9:15 a.m. and we have a place for everyone.  If you have never attended and are uncertain of where you should go, please come to the Orion Foyer – we have a group of people who would be more than happy to help you find your way.

*.  I will begin a sermon series this week entitled “Stained Glass Sermons.”  Everyone who attends our church notices the beautiful faceted glass windows and stained glass windows.  The windows represent six Old Testament characters and six New Testament characters.  I will be preaching a separate sermon on each of the characters represented in the windows.  This Sunday I will be preaching on Noah: A Lesson on Obedience.

I rejoice in what God is doing in and through Metairie Baptist Church.  I pray that you have been able to be a part of His working.  If not, now is the time.  Join us as we continue on the journey of walking as God directs.

On the journey,
Thomas
