Metairie Missive – July 11

Good morning.  I trust that you are all doing well.  I would like to begin by reminding you that our youth are at Centrifuge camp this week.  Many of us have been praying for them and I wanted to encourage all of us to join in asking for God to do a great work in them this week.  Also, pray for the chaperones who went that they would be encouraged and also that they would be used by God in the lives of the youth.  The group will be returning to Metairie on Friday.

Tonight is Business Meeting at church.  We will be discussing some important matters including making the final decision about a by-law change regarding our quorum.  In addition, the budget will be a matter of discussion.   As mentioned in the previous missive, we are watching the expenses very closely as we walk through this time of financial challenges.  Other matters will be discussed at the meeting as well – including one regarding an upcoming happening at MBC — you will not want to miss out on the information.

Would you continue to join us in prayer for Metairie Baptist Church?  Someone asked me Sunday if we were having difficulties at church since we have called the church into a special time of prayer.  The answer is a resounding “no.”  Instead, we are convinced God is doing a great work and we want to make certain our hearts are listening carefully to Him as we move into the months ahead.   As a result, we are in a month of prayer in which time we are committed to rejoicing over all that God has done and is doing at Metairie Baptist, to seeking after God’s direction for our next steps, and to determining how we can “become” more like Him daily.  Also, we are praying for God’s family at MBC to continue to be faithful in living for him, in telling others about him, and in participating in stewardship by giving sacrificially to the ministries of Metairie Baptist.

I know it is a few weeks away, but make certain you are planning on being at the breakfast on Sunday morning, July 29.  We decided earlier in the year to have a time of fellowship over a breakfast on each Fifth Sunday.  This will take place before Sunday School so you will have time to be at the Bible study.  On that Sunday, we will also be observing the Lord’s Supper during the morning worship service.

Remember that we are convinced that God has put us in Metairie Baptist Church so “that the world will know, the saved will grow, and the church will go.”  Please be in prayer about how God wants you to be involved.  In the next weeks, you will be hearing of new opportunities that are arising.  Also, the Committee on Committees and the Nominating Committee are working at their tasks to fill leadership positions for the upcoming year.

I look forward to seeing you tonight and also to worshiping with you on Sunday.  We will continue our series on “Stained Glass Sermons.”  Having completed a look at the characters portrayed in the windows on the West side of the sanctuary, we now begin to look at those on the East side – the New Testament Characters.  This week the sermon will be focused on Matthew as he wrote his Gospel to demonstrate that Jesus is the long awaited Messiah!

On the journey,
Thomas
