Metairie Baptist Missive
September 26, 2012
So the world will know, the saved will grow, and the church will go.
I find it hard to believe that September is almost over – and October is coming upon us quickly. Though we don’t want to think about it, the holiday season is rushing towards us as well. How can time pass by so quickly? The writer of Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us: “There is an appointed time for everything.” As we live our lives, let’s make certain that we are using the time God has given for the appointed tasks He has given us.
Last weekend was a great weekend at MBC – and a busy one. The ladies enjoyed a great time of fellowship and encouragement at the “Ladies’ Tea.” A special thanks to all who planned, prayed, worked, and participated. On Sunday, we enjoyed a great day of Bible study in Sunday School, a great opportunity to encounter God during worship, and a chance for ministry at VIPS. Thanks for all who came with willing hearts to be a part of the VIPS. We are planning on this becoming a monthly event, though some changes are being contemplated to make it more effective (to be discussed at the church council in two weeks). The Gathering on Sunday night was a great time of fellowship and ministry as well. Thanks for all who came and for having allowed God to prepare your hearts. We enjoyed getting to know new friends and rejoiced in God’s work through the ministries of MBC.
PLEASE NOTE: A special business meeting has been called for next Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 6:10 p.m. The purpose of the business meeting is to consider a recommendation from the Personnel Committee to hire Daniel Guagliardo as the part-time Youth Minister at Metairie Baptist. He and his wife became a part of the membership and ministry of Metairie Baptist Church during the past year. As they joined, they immediately became involved on a voluntary basis in the youth ministry. When a need for an interim arose, God led the Personnel Committee to ask Daniel to step into the place of ministry leadership. Daniel is married to Sarah who has been active in the ministry as well. They are both students in Leavell College of NOBTS. At the meeting, you will have the opportunity to hear more about Daniel. This is an exciting step for MBC!
Please consider carefully each of the following opportunities:
*. Fall Food Round Up. We are continuing to collect items for the Fall Food Round Up which benefits the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home. Please bring your items to the Orion Foyer – only two weeks remain to be able to help.
*. Fellowship Breakfast! This Sunday at 8:30 a.m. we will be meeting for our Fifth Sunday Fellowship Breakfast in the Fellowship Hall. Immediately before Sunday School, you will have a chance to enjoy a breakfast treat and more importantly to enjoy the fellowship with friends (as well as meet new friends). You are not asked to bring anything other than yourself! Make plans to be at the breakfast and join us afterwards for Bible Study in Sunday School.
*. The Lord’s Supper. This Sunday we will remember what God has done for us through Jesus Christ as we participate in the Lord’s Supper during the morning time of Worship at 10:30 a.m.
*. Fall Festival on Oct. 31. Make plans now to come and to help with the ministry at the Fall Festival which will be on Wednesday night this year from 6-8 p.m. Signing up for specific tasks will begin soon.
Would you join me in praying for the leadership of MBC? The deacons have elected new officers: Bob Frechette, Chair; Errol Wilken, Vice-Chair; Rick Coogler, Secretary. In addition, we have just elected new committees and chairpersons for the upcoming year. The Nominating Committee also presented the new list of teachers and ministry leaders which the church voted to approve. Thanks to all who were willing to be leaders for the upcoming year at MBC. Let’s pray that as they participate in the leadership of the ministries of the church that God would encourage them and continue to provide them with wisdom and strength needed to complete the tasks well.
I look forward to seeing you tonight. We are almost finished with “Encountering the New Testament.” Tonight we look at 2 John.
Remember to make the most of the time God has given you today!
On the journey,
