Metairie Baptist Missive
October 3, 2012
So the world will know, the saved will grow, and the church will go.

We had a great Sunday at MBC last week.  A special thanks goes to the Hospitality Committee for organizing the fellowship breakfast and to the Sunday School class taught by Errol Wilken and Alan Neesley for providing the breakfast (and cooking!).  In addition, our time of worship was meaningful as we had the opportunity to reflect upon what God has done for us as we participated in the Lord’s Supper.  If you have not been making Sunday Bible study and worship a priority, I encourage you to do so – God speaks and encourages as we gather together.  Plus, I have discovered that as we gather together we are reminded that we are not alone on this journey as we walk after Christ with our brothers and sisters.

Please be in prayer and in attendance tonight at our Called Business Meeting – 6:10 p.m. in the Sanctuary.  As indicated in previous communications, the purpose of this meeting is to hear a recommendation from the Personnel Committee that we elect Daniel Guagliardo as the new Minister of Youth at MBC.  Information will be available tonight regarding Daniel and you will have the opportunity to hear the discussion and ask questions.  Immediately after the business meeting, we will continue our study through the New Testament and look specifically at 3 John as time allows.

Did you know that the Bible study information, the prayer lists, the bulletins, and the Sunday services are available by means of our website each week?  Take time to look at the website and refer others to it as well:  www.metairiebc.org .

This Sunday is Church Council at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  We will meet to make final plans regarding the upcoming Fall Festival.  We will also be seeking after God’s direction regarding the planning of upcoming ministry opportunities at MBC.  Everyone is both invited and encouraged to attend – not only is this a great way to see all that God is doing in and through MBC, it is a great time to enjoy the fellowship and to be encouraged in the work that God is doing at MBC.

Remember that this Sunday is also the last day to bring your items for the Fall Food Round Up for the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.  They do a great work and this is our opportunity both to support and to encourage them.

This week, here are some ways you can help with the ministry at MBC:

*.  Join us in praying daily for God’s leadership and blessing of the ministry efforts at MBC.

*.  Pray for the staff and all those in leadership positions.

*.  Make a contact (call, write, or visit) to invite someone to an upcoming event or just to encourage someone.  God often uses the personal contact to make a difference in a person’s life!

*.  Participate in the happenings at MBC – gathering together for Bible study in Sunday School (and Wednesday night) and Worship are so very important!

*.  Make plans to be a part of the Fall Festival on Wednesday night, October 31, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Also, spread the word – this is a great time to invite your neighbors, friends, and family members.

*.  Seek after what God may be leading you to do – and then be obedient!

*.  Don’t forget to give to the church ministry as well!  Your offering is used to support the ministries of the church and during this time they are vitally needed. More than that, though, your giving places you in a position of obedience as you give with an attitude of worship and gratefulness.

*.  Our youth will be involved in a retreat this weekend beginning Friday night.  Would you pray that God would use this time to encourage them in their walk with Him?

*.  Come to every opportunity with a sense of expectation – expect God to do a great work because He desires to do so!

My prayer for you is the same that Paul prayed for the Christians in Thessalonica:  “Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance.  The Lord be with you.”  (2 Thess. 3:16).

God bless you,
Thomas
