Metairie Baptist Missive
October 17, 2012
So the world will know, the saved will grow, and the church will go.
My prayer for you this week has been the same prayer that Paul prayed for the Thessalonians in 2 Thess. 3:16: “Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all.” I trust that you are aware and experiencing God’s continued peace in your life this week.
As I start this missive this week, I have a heavy heart and ask that you would join me in praying for Ruby Graham. She has been moved to a Hospice Center and continues to struggle. Ruby has been and is a good friend to me and to the church – actually I feel like a part of her family and she treats me as such. Join me in praying for her and for the family during these days. In addition, would you join me in praying for the Grandmother of Andrew Burns. She is currently in Ochsner Hospital and beginning to show some signs of improvement. [Andrew is one of our newest members and is Kathryn’s fiance – and will be our son-in-law!] Also, thank you for your continued prayers for the family of Norman Hill. Be certain to continue to pray for Meri Maniscalco and her family in the loss of her father as well.
All eyes at MBC are focused – not on the debates and not on the Saints – but on the MBC Fall Festival! It is almost here. This is a great opportunity that the church seizes to minister to our community. We will have a number of children and their families come to the church park area and our parking lot on Oct. 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. While they are enjoying time with their children, we will take the moment to get to know them and to let them know about our church ministry. In addition, our primary goal is to demonstrate Christlike love towards them. Of course, we welcome and encourage our church members to bring their children as well.
You may be asking – how can I help? Here are ways you can be a part of the ministry at the Fall Festival:
*. Participate in the Blitz on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. We will be placing fliers on the doors of at least 1,000 homes near our church to make certain that those who live in the area receive a personal invitation to the event. Honestly – we desperately need volunteers. If a good number of willing church members show up to help, this will not take long (perhaps less than 45 minutes) because of the organization.
*. Begin now to invite others. As you encounter neighbors, family members, and people at work, school, or other places, invite them. Fliers are available in the Foyer for you to give to them as an invitation if you would like to pick some up.
*. Begin now to pray. This is a ministry opportunity. Yes, it is lots of fun but it is also a time that God can use for his glory. Join us in praying over every aspect of the evening, including the preparation.
*. We need candy! Would you be willing to donate candy that can be given to the children who attend? You can bring the candy to the Orion Foyer any time between now and the day of the event. The Gathering mission activity for the month is this collection of candy.
*. We need you! Please sign up to be present and to help. People like you are needed to help with the games, the inflatables, serving food, and hosting games in the trunk of a car (Trunk or Treat), just to name a few opportunities. You can sign up on the sheets in the Orion Foyer or you can call the church office to sign up at 835-2611. Your presence as a member of MBC is so vitally important to the success of this event. There will be something everyone can do. You are needed!
I look forward to seeing you tonight for business meeting – and don’t forget about the fellowship supper immediately before the business meeting. The supper begins at 5:00 p.m. and the business meeting will follow at 6:10 p.m.
On the journey,
