I find it hard to believe that in just a few days we will be entering December! Where has the year gone? What will I do to make the most of the next month – the waning days of 2012? My prayer has been that God would give me the grace and wisdom to use each moment for His glory – and that is my prayer for you as well. Let’s end this year well –doing exactly what He has called us to do by being the men and women that He has called us to be. As we live in that manner, let us be ever grateful for the fact that God has even given us the opportunity to walk with Him – to be His children.
As you contemplate giving gifts, let me encourage you to consider giving a gift above your tithes and offerings to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Many of the gifts we give in the days ahead will be forgotten or put aside in just a few months. But the gift given to the Lottie Moon Offering will be used to help spread the good news of Jesus Christ around the world – and this is a gift that will have eternal impact. The International Mission Board has committed that every gift given to this offering goes directly to the mission work overseas – none is kept here in the states. We may not be able to do mission work overseas but we can be a part of that great work through this opportunity. The theme this year is “Obedient: His Heart, His Hands, His Voice.” Let’s be obedient! You may give through the Lottie Moon offering envelopes provided at church or you can contact the office to have one sent to you.
We had a great time together at the Gathering last Sunday night. The time of worship and thanksgiving was meaningful as we remembered not only all that God has done for us but also who God is! Thank you to all who brought items for the Compassion Kits and for those who helped assemble them. In case you don’t know, Compassion Kits are bags filled with items that will help those who may be homeless – items such as bottled water, peanut butter and crackers, granola bars, canned fruit, lip gloss, and a tract. These kits can be given to those who are seeking help – and this provides MBC with a great ministry opportunity. We were able to put together over 70 kits. If you would like to keep one in your car so that you can minister to those in need that you may pass on the streets, please stop by the office and pick one up.
Tonight (Wednesday) is an important night at MBC. We will be looking as a church for the first time at the proposed budget for next year. The Stewardship Committee will make a presentation of the budget which will be followed by discussion – a time for you to ask that question that is on your mind! Come and be a part of the discussion! Remember that as you give your tithes and offerings to MBC, the church uses those gifts to support the ministry and the mission of the church. By the way, come early and enjoy the Fellowship Supper which begins at 5:00 p.m.
As a reminder, tonight continues a process of preparing to adopt the budget. The Stewardship Committee has been diligently working and praying as they have developed the proposed budget. Copies of the budget will be available for review on Sunday if you are unable to be in attendance tonight. Next Wednesday (Dec. 5), we will have an additional time of discussion/question and answer time. On Sunday, December 9, we will vote to affirm the budget without discussion. After the vote, the members of MBC will have a time to pledge support for the budget by a commitment to give of tithes and offerings in the upcoming year. This will be a special time of worship so make plans to attend.
Don’t forget to invite your family and friends to our upcoming Christmas events. On December 16 during the morning worship service, our adult choir (with the help of our children’s choir) will lead us in worship as we celebrate Jesus’birth. The following Sunday, December 23, will also be filled with celebration and worship. Our morning worship service will again be a special time of remembering the greatest gift that could possibly be given –the gift of Jesus Christ. On Sunday afternoon, we will enjoy a time of fellowship as a church family which will then be followed by a Christmas Candlelight service at 6:00 p.m. Plan to be in attendance and invite, invite, invite.
Please continue to pray that God would raise up men and women who would be willing to help with our Children’s Sunday School time. We still have a great need. As you pray, consider if God might be calling you. We have a great group of teachers – who just need a little support to continue the great ministry they are doing each Sunday morning.
May God bless you in the days ahead with a deeper knowledge of all that He has done for you through the gift of His Son. I look forward to seeing you tonight and in the days ahead.
On the journey,
