Happy 12/12/12 – and to think that there will never be another day like this in our lifetimes! To be honest, regardless of the date, every day is a one of a kind day. They never repeat, all hold different opportunities, and each one is a gift from God. So, let us make a commitment that we will value each day as we seek to use it for God’s glory. Remember Paul’s admonition: “Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil.” (Eph. 5:15-16)
Last Sunday’s service was a meaningful time of worship as we reflected upon God’s gift of Jesus for us–The Spirit of Christmas is the Spirit of Giving. At the close of the service, many of you responded by making a commitment to be faithful in giving of your tithes and offerings to the church budget. If you were unable to attend or did not complete a commitment card, we encourage you to do so in the week ahead. You can pick up a copy by contacting the church office. The cards will also be available in the Orion Foyer. After you have completed them, you can place them back in the box by the church office marked as “Tithing Commitment Cards.” Thank you for your faithfulness in this matter. I have been praying specifically that God would bless you with a greater knowledge of His gift of grace to us.
A few quick reminders in the midst of much busyness:
*. Tonight is business meeting. As mentioned on Sunday morning during the worship service, we will be hearing from the Personnel Committee regarding some important matters tonight. You will want to be a part of the discussion so join us at 6:10 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Come early tonight and join us for our weekly fellowship supper which begins at 5:00 p.m.
*. During our Fellowship Supper tonight, we will be honoring Joshua Stewart as he prepares to transition to Atlanta in the days ahead. Come and express your appreciation to and prayers for Josh.
*. This Sunday (Dec. 16) our adult choir will lead us in worship as they sing – “Meet Him at the Manger.” In addition, the preschool and children’s choirs will be singing. The service starts at 10:30 a.m. and is preceded by a great time of Bible study in Sunday School at 9:15 a.m. Be certain to invite your family and friends to this special time of worship.
*. On Sunday afternoon, December 23, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall we will enjoy a great time together as a church during our Christmas Fellowship. All are invited to come for this special time. Information will be in the bulletin this Sunday regarding the items you can bring or you can contact the office for more information. Basically, the hospitality committee asks that you consider bringing either a savory dish or a desert, but do not let this stop you from coming if you are unable to bring something. Savory dishes they are looking for include: chips and dip, meatballs, crackers and cheese, sausage balls, any grab and go finger food items.
*. Immediately following the fellowship next Sunday (Dec. 23) we will continue to celebrate God’s great gift to us during our annual Christmas Candlelight service at 6:00 p.m. This has always been a time to slow down and remember the real reason for this season as found in God’s gift to us of His Son, Jesus Christ.
*. Remember to bring your Lottie Moon Christmas Offering! We can both encourage and support our missionaries who are literally scattered around the world through this offering and through our prayers.
*. Speaking of Lottie Moon Christmas Offering –you can utilize the Lottie Christmas Offering Post Office in the Orion Foyer. Simply bring your cards and place them in the appropriate slot – and make a suggested donation of 25 cents per card.
As we look towards the close of this year, let’s stay focused on living our lives and ministering through the church in such a manner that God receives the glory He deserves. Let’s also keep looking forward to the year 2013 with anticipation of God’s great work continuing among us.
Blessings to each of you,
