Metairie Baptist Missive
January 2, 2013
So the world will know, the saved will grow, and the church will go.
Happy New Year! Do you realize that on Tuesday morning, very early, you were given a gift? When 2013 arrived, you suddenly had 8,760 new hours that have never been used before! The resulting question is: “How will you use these gifted hours during this upcoming year?” We are reminded in Psalm 90:12: “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” My prayer is that God will give each of us that heart of wisdom so that this year we can utilize every hour for His glory and for the accomplishing of His purposes in our lives.
I look forward to seeing you tonight. We will resume our Family Night Supper at 5:00 p.m. Children’s, Youth, and Adult activities will resume according to our regular schedule – children and youth meet at 6:00 p.m. The adults will meet for Bible Study and prayer in the sanctuary at 6:10 p.m. Tonight is the night to begin a new year in church finding encouragement and enjoying the fellowship. By the way, choir practice follows Bible study and all are invited to join!
This Sunday (Jan. 6) is going to be a great day at Metairie Baptist:
*. During the morning worship we will be observing the Lord’s Supper. I can think of no better way to prepare ourselves to embrace the year ahead than by remembering what God has done for us! Make worship a priority on Sunday morning! Don’t forget to come at 9:15 a.m. for Bible study in Sunday School – if you have never been before, this Sunday will be a great Sunday to start!
*. Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, the Church Council will be meeting! Join with us as we talk through what we believe God is leading us to do as a church in the upcoming months. You are all invited – and encouraged – to attend as you help give guidance and hear about plans being made. Have an idea that you would like for the church to consider as a ministry – bring it to the council! Have a concern – bring it to the council meeting!
*. On Sunday, we will begin “21 Days” of prayer and Bible study together as a church. This will give us an opportunity to concentrate upon hearing from God, of preparing ourselves for the new year, of growing closer to Him, and of developing a good habit of spending time with God each day that will become a part of our lives throughout the year. You can download the journal at www.lbc.org/21days (a link is on the right column as well as other valuable information). If you would like a hard copy of the journal, you can pick one up at the church office, at Bible study tonight, or at the morning worship service on Sunday.
I do hope you will make plans to be a part of the “21 Days” which begins this Sunday. During this time, we will Reflect (What was the year 2012 like?), Repent (What is standing in the way of God doing His greatest work in our lives and in our church?), and Realign (What changes do we need to make in our attitudes and actions in order to find ourselves in the center of God’s will?). I believe that this can be an extremely meaningful time for us individually and as a church.
I am thankful for you and look forward to God’s working in our lives this year –both to know Him better and to be used by Him in the lives of others. Don’t forget to pray: “Lord, teach us to number our days . . . .”
On the journey,
