So the world will know, the saved will grow, and the church will go.
Good morning! I pray that you are having a great week of getting to know God more intimately and of being used by Him to make a difference. What great joy He provides as we live in light of the relationship He has given to us!
I have been praying that you have been on the journey with us as we are experiencing “21 Days of Concentrated Prayer”. If you have not had a chance to begin, you can find the prayer journal online at www.lbc.org/21days or you can pick one up in the office. If you are unable to make it to the office, call 835-2611 and we will be glad to send one to you.
Today is the third day in our 21 day journey. We are challenged to develop “right thinking.” I love the challenge found in the devotion this morning: “As you pray for renewal in our state and churches, engage your mind correctly so that the toxic thoughts are expelled. Then blessing from on high will fill your hearts, and peace, which passes all understanding, will reign.” Join me in continuing to pray for God’s work in our lives as we “Reflect, Repent, and Realign.” By the way, an additional challenge –memorize Phil. 4:8 (as we were challenged to do in the devotion this morning) and let God use it as a guide in your life.
Thank you to those who were able to make it to Church Council on Sunday night. I always find this to be an encouraging time as we allow God to speak through His people at Metairie Baptist to give guidance and direction. Some of the matters discussed, of which you will be hearing more about, include:
*. A renewed desire to be more effective in sharing prayer requests and concerns with those who wish to pray. If you are interested in receiving prayer requests so that you can join us in praying together as a church, please send a note to Melissa.firstname.lastname@example.org ask to be added to the prayer email list. We will utilize that email list to send out information regarding our church family and friends who are experiencing challenges in their lives.
*. A desire to participate in a mission trip/mission experience this summer. A group is now beginning to explore both possibilities and to make initial plans. This will be an opportunity for all MBC to be involved, including those who go, those who pray, and those who provide assistance in a number of other ways.
*. A determination that we should have our Family Ministry Day on March 16, 2013 and Vacation Bible School on June 17-21, 2013.
*. A decision to explore the possibility of a new pictorial directory. A group of volunteers will begin looking into the details and make plans.
*. A new approach to Wednesday night Bible study– which you will be hearing about in the next weeks.
Many other decisions were discussed, and all these will continue to be a part of the discussion at MBC as we seek after God’s continued direction. If you were unable to attend this past week, please make plans to join us at the next church council!
Don’t forget the upcoming Men’s and Women’s Ministry happenings!
*. Men – we are having a “Men’s Prayer Breakfast”this Saturday, Jan. 12, at 8:00 a.m. This will be a great time of fellowship and a time of encouragement as we hear about the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Ministry. We will also discover ways that we can be participate in the ministry.
*. Ladies – you have a “Cokes and Canvas” event coming up on Friday, Jan 18. You will have a time to explore your creative side and to enjoy fellowship with others.
Join us Sunday for Sunday School and Worship. I love Sunday School! It is a great time not only to study the Bible, but to enjoy fellowship and receive encouragement. Our teachers are prepared and equipped to help you apply the Bible to your life. Also, you will be able to connect with people who love you and care for you. Sunday School begins at 9:15 a.m. Someone will meet you in the Orion Foyer to help you find your place if you have never been before.
Personally, I am excited about this year. After hearing what God is doing through the lives of individuals at church council and spending concentrated time in prayer as we begin our “21 Days”, I feel the excitement building – and the anticipation of God’s working is growing. Don’t miss out on what God is doing at MBC. Someone once compared church to a football game – a small group of people on the field exerting lots of energy while the majority sits in the stands comfortably cheering on those on the field. In the church, the ones sitting in the stands are missing the opportunity to know God better and to be used by Him – don’t miss out this year as God desires to know you better and to work through you.
On the journey,
