Good morning! We are glad to be back home. Thank you for your prayers as we traveled. We enjoyed being with our family in Tennessee – my youngest nephew, Andrew, was married this weekend and I had a chance to perform the ceremony. Our entire family was able to be together in Nashville which is an unusual treat. I was reminded again of the wonderful gift of family that God has given me – both my immediate family and my extended family. Of course, my church family is also an incredible gift for which I am overwhelmingly grateful.
-Make plans to join us tonight. We will be thinking through the discipline of service. As we strive to become more like Christ, we are challenged to serve others. Service is not a natural impulse; many times we desire to be served instead. The discipline of service challenges us to see others as Christ does and then to respond to their needs by serving them. I have a true story that I learned about this weekend that illustrates service so well and I am excited about the opportunity to share it with you tonight. The Bible study time will begin at 6:10 p.m. Children and youth activities will begin at 6:00 p.m. Don’t forget to join us for the Fellowship Meal at 5:00 p.m.
-We have several key events coming up at Metairie Baptist Church in the next days.
-The Strength Team will be at Metairie Baptist on Friday night (July 19) at 7:00 p.m. Make plans to come, to invite others, and to pray that God will make a difference in the hearts of those who come. We have been praying and preparing for this event for weeks. Literally hundreds of invitations have been sent and many other preparations have been made. Please join us in support of this event – and anticipate God’s working.
-We will meet this Sunday morning as we always do for Sunday School (Bible Study) at9:15 a.m. and worship at 10:30 a.m. Will you begin now to pray for God’s working among us? Come with anticipation of what God is going to do – come prayed up and ready! Don’t forget to invite your family and friends as well.
-Church Council/Business meeting will be this Sunday night (July 21) at 5:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. This will not only be a time to review the business of the church, but we will have the opportunity to consider upcoming ministry opportunities. All are encouraged to attend – this is a great way to discover much of what is taking place at Metairie Baptist and to provide input.
-A special thank you to Zac Breckenridge for preaching from his heart this week. I am also grateful for him and know that you will join me as he prepares to leave this Saturday for a mission experience in Nicaragua. One of the best gifts we can give to those who serve faithfully is to support them through prayer. Would you make a commitment to join with me in praying for Zac during the days he is ministering in Nicaragua? If you would like to know specific ways that you can be in prayer for him, simply reply to this email and ask!
-Remember to be in prayer for our Bayou Connection. We are partnering with Live Oak Baptist Church to encourage them in their ministry. Pray specifically for Matt Chouest, the pastor. Also, continue to pray for the Disciple Now sponsored by our youth ministry which will be at Live Oak the first weekend in August.
-Be certain of my prayers – and if I can pray specifically with you, don’t hesitate to let me know. You can either reply to this email (email@example.com) or call the church office at 504-835-2611. I look forward to seeing you tonight.
On the journey,
